Cardamom, one of the oldest spices around, originates from the tropical forests of Sri Lanka. Today, it is an essential ingredient in many Middle Eastern and African cuisines. There are two types of cardamom--green and black. We offer small greenish-colored pods that are the most common and have a distinctive lemony, flowery aroma and a warm, bittersweet, fruity flavor. To get the maximum flavor from these pods, bruise them slightly to break the pods. Green cardamom is the base for several desserts and drinks, while black cardamom is used for savory cuisines.
